April 2020 Animal Count

April 2020 Animal Count

Under a nation-wide quarantine, Animal Friends of the Valleys felt the real impacts of COVID-19 during April 2020. With a decrease in foot traffic, our Team was concerned that the pets in our care would not find their forever homes, but the compassion in our community completely blew us away, with our shelter seeing more empty kennels than we have ever seen in our 33-year history.

We at AFV were amazed to see the compassionate hearts of the Animal Friends in our Valleys, who helped us find forever homes for 110 cats and 135 dogs and returned 7 cats and 57 dogs to their owners.

Our Rescue partners took 24 cats and 53 dogs into their care. With the help of our enhanced “Barn Buddy” program, our shelter only euthanized 1 feral cat during the month of April.

As we move deeper into Kitten Season, we need your help.

Our foster homes are already overwhelmed with Mama and baby kittens, and we are looking for more families to open their hearts and homes to these cuties that need our support until they are old enough to get fixed and find their forever families.

If you are interested in supporting this program, please complete an application at https://afv.org/foster/

Thank you so much for your continued support of our shelter pets. Because shelter pets are Heads and Tails Above the Rest!

March 2020 Animal Count

March 2020 Animal Count

March was a month of change in 2020, bringing safer-at-home orders, mandated closures of local businesses, and a sense of panic that swept our nation. We at AFV were challenged with continuing to provide our essential services of caring for the lost, homeless, and abandoned animals in our valleys and provided care for 609 pets throughout the month.

Thanks to the incredible support of our donors, adopters, volunteers, fosters, and hard-working staff, we saw 94 cats and 172 dogs adopted to new homes of their own, 125 dogs and 12 cats returned to the homes from which they had been lost, and 56 pets taken in by our rescue partners.

We are so blessed to have a community that cares so deeply for the pets in need in our valleys–we truly could not do the work that we do without support of Animal Friends like you.

February 2020 Animal Count

February 2020 Animal Count

February was a strong month at AFV with 126 cats and 174 dogs adopted from the shelter, 29 cats (wow!) and 148 dogs returned to their owners, and 46 pets sent to rescue organizations throughout the month!

We are proud to have continued our 0% “placeable euthanized” rate throughout the month of February, but we will need your help to continue that trend throughout the upcoming months facing the new challenges of COVID-19.

If you are able, please help us in our mission to find forever homes for all of the lost, homeless, and abandoned animals at Animal Friends of the Valleys.
